Newswire Maria Bamford records homemade comedy special, releases as free download

Maria Bamford

Is it Christmas already? Minnesota-raised comedian Maria Bamford has recorded a one-hour comedy special and is releasing it for free on her website "to download and blop and flipper at your convenience." Filmed at home on her couch with her two pugs, the video was made possible through corporate largesse: "A lot of things have been pretty tough this year, but not for me, 'cause I sold out," she says. "Yeah, I gave up my soul to 'The Man,' and so now I'm giving this batch of jokes to you. Enjoy!" She's referring to her recent TV face time in Target's post-Thanksgiving holiday ads in a dual role as a prissy, over-competitive suburban mom and her unkempt sister. (It's actually a pretty great showcase for her amazing ability to switch between characters.) The gifted Comedians Of Comedy mainstay also landed on The A.V. Club's list of the decade's best comedy albums for her 2009 disc Unwanted Thoughts Syndrome.
