Mason Jennings to headline benefit for ailing sound man
Twin Cities music aficionados may not recognize Chad Weis on sight, but he's been a vital part of the scene for many years, mixing live gigs at area clubs and tour-managing for a handful of breakout Minnesota artists. Thanks to a nasty sinus condition, Weis was forced to endure an emergency surgery this fall that, albeit successful, has left him with a stack of medical bills his insurance won't cover. Enter local troubador Mason Jennings, a longtime friend and client of Weis. With additional support from Haley Bonar and The Pines, Jennings has laid plans to host a benefit concert for his keen-eared homeboy at First Avenue on Jan. 17 (also featuring "special guests that I can't announce until it gets closer to the show," he says). With friends like these, who needs Medicare?
