Minneapolis does Daytrotter

Load up on free local music from the Illinois-based superblog.

At this time each year, a whole bunch of locally based music-makers start packing their vans, flight cases, and knapsacks in preparation for a long, heady trip to Austin's annual South By Southwest  festival. (You can catch a handful of them this weekend at First Avenue's live send-off event.) Most bands would agree that a SXSW experience can amount to anything from a career-making crusade to a woeful waste of gas money. So, in the interest of accentuating the tangible, Decider thought it'd be a good time to compile a list local acts who've made the much shorter but no less worthwhile trip to Rock Island, Ill., to record a Daytrotter session. (If you don't already have Daytrotter bookmarked in your browser, wake up: It's loaded with exclusive tracks and downloadable oddities by indie songsters of all stripes, with fresh stuff on offer every damned day.)

Use these links to start building your own boxed set of Minnesota-grown Daytrotter tracks: Haley Bonar, Ben Weaver, Dark Dark Dark, Dosh, P.O.S., Tapes 'N Tapes, Low, Ice Palace, Fog, One For The Team, Hockey Night, Retribution Gospel Choir, Brother Ali. (Watch for songs by Jeremy Messersmith and Halloween, Alaska to appear on the site in the coming months.)
