Our music scene is a busy place, with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.
• A slew of local musicians who share a practice space are preparing for the high heating bills in the months ahead. On Wednesday, they’re throwing a “rent party” at the Turf Club, with the proceeds going toward keeping their fingers and toes from going numb during rehearsals. Alpha Consumer; Halloween, Alaska; Haley Bonar; No Bird Sing; and the rarely seen Love-cars are a few of the names on the bill, though new, impromptu collaborations are also promised.
• Gayngs frontman Ryan Olson shares his favorite album and song of 2010 with Pitchfork, also managing to squeeze in shout-outs to Marijuana Deathsquads and Nick And Eddie. Meanwhile, former Triangle bassist MNDR contributes her top 10 emotions and albums.
• BNLX publicizes its Christmas wishlist (a Matisse, a Lincoln Navigator full of gold Krugerrands, courtside Lakers tickets) with a new track called "What Do You Have Under The Tree For Me."
• If BNLX’s taste is too expensive for you, try Little Man’s new holiday song, “Plan To Be Together.” Aww, all he wants for Christmas is you.
