Myth Nightclub closed; Uptown Bar next?
As reported by the Star Tribune, Maplewood’s Myth Nightclub closed last week, leaving its owners to battle in court over a cumulative $16 million debt that neither founder Michael Ogren nor Stephen Sadowski, owner of the company that bought the place out, wants to pay. Regina Spektor's Sept. 11 booking at the Myth has been relocated to the State Theatre. It remains to be seen which local venues will snatch up the rest of the suburban club's scheduled events.
Odds are the Uptown Bar & Cafe won't be in the running. As of this week, the Minneapolis Planning Commission has approved a plan to replace the decades-old burgers-beers-and-bands joint with a three-story retail space. There's talk of moving the Uptown's live music legacy to an alternate location not far from its longtime home off Lake Street and Hennepin Avenue. In theory, finding that new location is a task for developer Jeffrey Herman, whose company paved the way for other classic Calhoun gems such as Victoria's Secret.
