New Low record, C’mon, due April 12

The last time we heard from Low, the trio was generously giving away a live EP it had recorded in a church in the Netherlands. Apparently, houses of God work well for them: C’mon, a 10-song album scheduled to be released April 12 on Sub Pop, was recorded in Duluth’s Sacred Heart Studio (previously a Catholic church). It makes sense; Low was made for that reverb caused by vaulted ceilings—they’re just a church-y sort of band.

Thematically, the group has apparently changed directions following 2007’s Drums And Guns, an album inspired by the war in Iraq. In a press release for the new full-length, Alan Sparhawk says, “With the last couple of records, we were grappling with something outside of ourselves. This one feels more like, ‘Well, forget that. I’m looking in your eyes right now, and we need to figure out how to get through the next moment, together, as human beings.’”

Dates for a full U.S. tour have yet to be announced, but in the meantime, you can catch Sparhawk’s other band, Retribution Gospel Choir, at the Cedar Cultural Center on Feb. 3.
