Oscar-nominated shorts coming to the Lagoon Feb. 11

Oscars, short films Let's Pollute

Sure, you’ve seen all the big Oscar-nominated films of the year—True Grit, Black Swan, The King’s Speech, and all that other serious-minded important stuff—as determined by the Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts And Sciences. Of course, so has everyone else. If you’re going to bolster your film-nerd credentials, you’re going to have to go above and beyond. You’re going to have to see the small Oscar-nominated films.

Luckily, that’s actually pretty easy. Starting this Friday, Feb. 11, Lagoon Cinema (1320 Lagoon Ave., 612-825-6006) is bundling all of the Oscar-nominated shorts into two easy-to-swallow programs: One wraps up the animated shorts, and the other compiles all of the live-action pieces. Together, you’re looking at less than four hours of your life, and you’ll get to be smartest person in the room when the winners are announced and you can murmur, “Ah, so disappointing—I really thought Wish 143 should have won this category.”

The full slate of films for each program is below.

Madagascar, Carnet De Voyage
