Sure, we’re in the middle of a violent heat wave, and sure, The Violators’ van may have broken down en route to the show, but last night’s Thurston Moore and Kurt Vile concert at The Varsity Theater proved a strong showing from all involved. Fresh off performing at Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival, Vile and Co. lived up to expectations, furiously blazing through a sadly shortened 35-minute set before Thurston Moore took the stage cracking jokes and confessing to “sweating like a white girl.” Moore’s performance, mainly made up of songs off of 2007’s Trees Outside Of The Academy and his folk-tinged, Beck Hansen-produced release from this year, Demolished Thoughts, is proof that rockers can go acoustic without sacrificing the sound that fans want. Here’s a slideshow from last night’s concert.
