P.O.S., Meat Puppets, Soul Asylum suit up for Minnesota Beatle Project Vol. 2
Album art by Jon Reischl
Minnesota Beatle Project Vol. 2, a benefit album to raise money for public school music programs, is about to be released, and unsurprisingly there was no shortage of Twin Cities musicians willing to bang out their best Fab Four impression—you know, for the sake of the children. (For proof of the project’s effectiveness, check out the Edison High School Concert Band, which received 50 instruments thanks to proceeds from the first compilation and appears on the new one performing “I Want To Hold Your Hand.”) While that first volume stuck to locals doing classic tunes, the new one throws a few surprises into the mix, including non-Minnesotan musicians (Cory Chisel, Meat Puppets) and some lesser-known songs. The Current is now streaming a few of the covers, including P.O.S. doing Paul McCartney’s solo track “Dear Boy,” and Mason Jennings’ take on “Child Of Nature,” which John Lennon later revamped into “Jealous Guy.” Here’s the complete track listing:
