Postcard from SXSW: March 20, part 6
Q: Are they not men? A: They are Devo.
Devo
Along with the small army of writers from Decider’s Austin site and the A.V. Club mothership, Minnesota photographer Stacy Schwartz also went down to Austin for the 2009 SXSW festival, and sent back daily reports to Decider Twin Cities on what she saw and heard. Previously: March 18, parts 1, 2, and 3; March 19, parts 1, 2, 3, and 4; March 20, parts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
11:55 p.m.: The Airborne Toxic Event is pretty intense. But I can’t be late for Devo, though, so right as the last chord is struck, I start marching toward the Austin Music Hall.Oof. My feet are gonna feel this one. I just barely make it into the hall before Devo starts. I get into the photo pit and have a pretty shit spot, if I do say so. Of course, no one wants to move once the show begins. Devo have a gigantic LCD screen behind them, which is pretty awesomely '80s. No red plastic hats in sight, though! Hmmm…
