Pretenders change venues again; this time, they're playing First Avenue

After switching venues in June for their upcoming Twin Cities show from the Minnesota Zoo to the Orpheum Theatre, The Pretenders have switched once again, relocating from the Orpheum to the First Avenue Mainroom. Tickets purchased for the previous venues will be honored at the door, and refunds are available. The initial switch stemmed from the objections of frontwoman Chrissy Hynde, an outspoken animal rights activist, to the zoo's farm exhibit, specifically with what happens to those cute little animals after you pet them. (Hint: It's the same thing that happens to sheep and cows on real farms.) Now, in an apparent effort to confuse patrons and music journalists alike, the show has been moved again to the cruelty-free confines of the downtown danceteria. The date remains Wednesday, Aug. 19; doors are now at 6:30 p.m. The tiered tickets, originally ranging from $39 to $65 for the Orpheum's sectioned seating, will also be honored in an interesting system using bike racks to separate the floor, according to the Star Tribune.

The venue shift also changes up the opening lineup: Cat Power starts off the show, but Juliette Lewis, originally the first opening act, will now perform after The Pretenders in the more intimate 7th Street Entry next door. Though technically at a separate venue, the Lewis show will only be accessible to Pretenders ticketholders, who will not need to pay extra to get in.
