Prince announces Welcome 2 America "series of events"
Speaking so slowly that even those who think the Internet is over could chisel his words onto stone tablets, Prince held a press conference at Harlem’s Apollo Theater to announce that he’s putting together a concert. Or rather, a “series of events” called Welcome 2 America. Details were few, but Rolling Stone reports that a multi-night stand will take place in the NYC area, and Prince confirmed that it will begin on “a purple day in December.” A little more helpful was a list of names of those who will share the stage with him: Maceo Parker, Janelle Monáe (whose concerts he’s attended twice in Minneapolis in the last year), Mint Condition, Esperanza Spalding, Cassandra Wilson, Sinbad, Lalah Hathaway, Sheila E., and Graham Central Station. As Prince said in closing, “Bring friends, bring your children, and bring foot spray, ’cause it’s gonna be funky.”
