Prince bestows new track's world premiere on The Current
When Prince showed up at The Current's fifth anniversary show at First Avenue last month, it felt a little strange. Not just because he was there (although, yes, it is sort of strange being in the guy's presence), but the fact that he arrived in time to watch Mason Jennings' set and left shortly afterward. Did The Purple One have an ulterior motive? Today we may have gotten our answer. Prince has officially given 89.3 The Current his approval, granting the station the exclusive world premiere of his new song "Cause And Effect," which will air Friday morning at 7 a.m. A publicity rep from the station says the track is "a rocker filled with virtuosic guitar work, explosive drum breaks, a poppy chorus, trademark shrieks and whoops." It already sounds better than "Purple And Gold."
