Our music scene is a busy place, with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.
• Most inhabitants of Earth don’t care about American football, so why should you? Here’s a more fun option: Out Of Step’s punk-rock Super Bowl will pit bands from Green Bay and Pittsburgh against one another in a battle over who has the better scene. Tune into Radio K Sunday at 2 p.m., and be sure to have some requests handy. C’mon, it’s not like you have anything better to do on Sunday afternoon.
• Mark Ronson associate MNDR has released a new, very Santigold-ish track called “Cut Me Out.” While all the press we’ve read about Amanda Warner talks about her move from the Bay Area to New York, we’ll keep claiming her as our own, because we loved her late-’90s/early-’00s Twin Cities laptop pop duo, Triangle. Never forget!
• Atmosphere gathered its friends from the Welcome To Minnesota tour (which hits Mankato, Bemidji, St. Cloud, Rochester, and Duluth at the end of the month) to record “Minnesota Nice.” Felipe Cuauhtli, Prof, Mr. Gene Poole, and Slug define the title with lines like, “I service you with a smirk.” Yeah, that sounds about right.
• While we’re at it, how about a new song from Low? “Try To Sleep” is the shimmery opener from the upcoming C’mon. The band also just announced a string of tour dates, including a First Avenue show on April 16. Tickets go on sale Friday.
• Sims is getting ready to unveil Bad Time Zoo, and he’s got a sneak peek for anyone who orders the deluxe edition, which includes the album, a T-shirt, and a box cutter that you can use to make little paper sculptures of vicious animals.
