Red-hot Jukeboxing follow-up: the jukebox that’s making its way around town

One year ago today, on a fateful frost-bitten 29th of November, The A.V. Club brought you a very special double edition of Jukeboxing. There—in an epic concordance of verbiage—we paid a visit to the twin jukeboxes of one of our favorite Twin Cities institutions.
In the tumultuous year since then, the Turf Club has seen some changes—not the least of which was replacing its upstairs juke with one of those soulless androids that sings songs from “the Internet.” Not to bring up old shit; we’ve forgiven the venue for this, thanks to the Turf’s musicheaded clientele, who have broken in the new box by spending their hard-earned money to download songs not by Shakira.
The questions lingered in our heads, however: What did become of the Turf’s old Rowe Ami Venus, with its King Khan And BBQ Show? And who, pray tell, is listening to it now?
If you’ve been to Pat’s Tap, the cleverly named, cutely hip skee-ball pub on Nicolett, you may have heard some unlikely strains from The Ashtray Hearts and solved the mystery for yourself. That’s right; the Turf’s long-lost upstairs juke has jumped the river (like so many of us do), to rough things up in a bar that would otherwise be a little too neat around the edges. Check it out quickly, before all of the mainstay Turf bartenders head over to Pat’s to get their CDs back.
