Rhymesayers signs Evidence of Dilated Peoples
Ten years ago, a recording contract with Rhymesayers Entertainment may not have registered much more than a fleeting blip on the local-music radar. Now, with artists like Atmosphere and Brother Ali helping to make it a globally recognized brand, the Rhymesayers imprint is a coveted indie-music badge on the order of Sub Pop circa 1992. If you're a believer, make some more room in your backpack and/or iPod: The latest MC to join the RSE fold is California hip-hopper Michael "Evidence" Perretta, known as part of the Dilated Peoples crew. Having already earned a formidable rep as a rapper, grafitti artist, and producer for artists including Beastie Boys and Kanye West, he makes a logical addition to a roster that's known for dedicated underground toil. Evidence will support Brother Ali on live dates this fall; his first Rhymesayers release, Cats & Dogs, is slated to drop early next year.
