Rotting Christ
If your band name is so offensive that it even turns off Dave Mustaine, you know you've either got something really special or truly horrible. Either way, Greek black-metal band Rotting Christ (playing Saturday at the 7th Street Entry) should be pleased. Formed in 1987 back when the members were still in their mid-teens, Rotting Christ drew the ire of Mustaine in 2005 when the band and Megadeth were scheduled to appear on the same bill at a Greek music festival. Mustaine, a recent convert to Christianity, asked that Rotting Christ not open for him. (If you've read the Old Testament, you know that God has no problems with a band called Megadeth.) In response, Rotting Christ singer Sakis Tolis said he felt sorry for Mustaine, "because we think Christianity is the worst thing to happen in human history." So, if you think the name "Rotting Christ" is just for empty shock value, think again.
