Just Announced Solid Gold, P.O.S., Mason Jennings to play Current's fifth-anniversary party Jan. 29

Solid Gold Solid Gold

We're lucky enough here in the Twin Cities to have several options for independent, underground, and local music on the radio, including KFAI and the U of M's Radio K, but it's undeniable that the Twin Cities' music scene got a big boost when Minnesota Public Radio launched its indie-rock arm, The Current, five years ago on 89.3 FM. Earlier today, the station announced the lineup for its Jan. 29 show at First Avenue celebrating its half-decade, and it's pretty compelling, gathering five terrific Minnesota acts both established and up-and-coming—synth-rockers Solid Gold and Lookbook, rapper P.O.S., singer-songwriter Mason Jennings, and ex-Trip Shakespearians Matt Wilson and John Munson's new duo, The Twilight Hours. DJs from The Current will spin between sets.

Tickets are $12 and go on sale Jan. 13, or $6 and Jan. 8 for MPR members, who also will get a free copy of the station's new compilation disc of live in-studio performances—here's the track listing.

1. The Shins, "Caring Is Creepy" (4/12/05)
2. The Magic Numbers, "Love Me Like You Do" (11/11/05)
3. Regina Spektor, "Fidelity" (5/02/06)
4. Jose Gonzalez, "Heartbeats" (6/23/06)
5. The Clientele, "Book Shop Casanova" (6/01/07)
6. Patti Smith, "People Have The Power" (08/07/07)
7. Elbow, "One Day Like This" (4/30/08)
