Surly Furious rated one of the world’s best beers

Those who slug back local brews like Wisconsinites are probably not surprised to hear that a lot of people think Surly makes really fantastic beer. Specifically, Surly Furious is considered by many Minnesotans to be one of the great IPAs on the market—and the people who populate the website ratebeer.com agree. Furious was named the top IPA by the site, which is quite a feat considering the bitter ale is only available in the Twin Cities area. The brewery as a whole was rated No. 11—which is nothing to bubble about. As for the future of Surly? The brewery had a big year after, you know, successfully changing Minnesota law in order to move forward with a planned joint beer garden and brewing facility that will greatly increase its brewing capacity. Not bad for a beer that got its start in 1994 in a West Metro garage. [Strib]
