The craft beer scene in Minnesota is growing, and while we certainly don’t have any complaints about the increasingly diversified field of refreshments being offered these days, the time has come for the local beer scene to get a little organization to raise it to the level of the next great “beer city” on a national level.
Cue the launch of the Better Beer Society, an agency created to provide education and representation to brewers, distributors, and retailers alike.
The founder of the Better Beer Society is a Cicerone (not Madonna’s last name as we originally thought), the beer equivalent of a Sommelier, and will use his expert status to help those within the organization master the intricacies of things like appropriate beer pairings, as well as working with distributors to expand their portfolios of craft beers.
To celebrate the group’s genesis, the Better Beer Society will be having its first event, a brown bag blind tasting, starting at 11 a.m. this Saturday, Jan. 7 at popular U of M watering hole Stub And Herbs. In addition to that event—which aims to make the palates of its participants more sophisticated—on Jan. 11, the BBS and the Bryant Lake Theater will be hosting the Twin Cities première of The Love Of Beer, a documentary that celebrates the first women working in the beer industry.
