The Kills at First Avenue
More Just Announced
Just when the spotlight was shining brightest on The Kills (big festival dates, guitarist Jamie Hince’s tabloid romance with Kate Moss, a seemingly unending stream of soundtrack slots on Gossip Girl), the band retreated to the darkness, with vocalist Alison Mosshart taking a leave of absence to make “fuck me” eyes at Jack White as the frontwoman for The Dead Weather. The duo is slithering back to the stage this spring, however, returning with a fuller sound—which isn’t difficult, considering the many minimalist pleasures of 2008’s Midnight Boom—on the new Blood Pressures, due April 5.
Like any worthwhile musical re-emergence, this one begins at SXSW, with Hince and Mosshart set to swagger around Austin March 16-20. The Kills will make their way up north as the spring continues, though, making their joyous return to Minneapolis May 5 at First Avenue with Cold Cave and The Entrance Band. Tickets go on sale Friday at 11 a.m.
