More Music Notes

Our music scene is a busy place, with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.

• It’s been almost a month since a fire tore through Grant Hart’s house. Of course, it was only a matter of time before a few generous souls from the local scene extended a hand, and here it is: Dave Pirner and The Magnolias will play a benefit show for Hart at First Avenue on March 12.

• In other news about do-gooder musicians, the proceeds from a compilation called Think Out Loud will go Twin Cities non-profits that help the homeless. Cloud Cult, Chris Koza, Psalm One, Charlie Parr, and Roma Di Luna are just a few names on the impressive track list.

• The latest on the upcoming Atmosphere album, The Family Sign, comes in the form of a song debut. If “Just For Show” is any indication, the duo’s decision to use more live instrumentation on the record was a good one.

• You may not be able to buy Ruby Isle’s Appetite For Destruction remake, but now you can watch the electro-pop band play a few songs from it. Snake-dance along to clips from the band’s recent Radio K in-studio.
