The MOA is throwing an indie music festival this weekend, according to organizers

In light of the perennial success and bloating attendances at the Pitchfork and SXSW music festivals, the Mall Of America has decided to cash in, and it’s doing it the only way it knows how: by crafting a hyper-commercialized facsimile of those events. This weekend, it’s partnering with the Indie Music Channel, throwing the cleverly named Indoor Indie Music Fest. The five-stage, three-day event, which starts tomorrow, will feature an array of pop, rock, electronic, and country artists. You know, “indie country.” Unfortunately, this is the Mall Of America, so no rap or hip-hop acts. The final day of the festival will give attendees a chance to attend a “One-on-One” career consultation with IMC president and founder Christopher Ewing in his suite at the Ramada Inn, which seems like a totally cool thing.

For those unfamiliar with the Indie Music Channel, it’s an online music service that promotes “artists you need to know, music you need to hear!” Judging by the heavily Comic Sans-ed website, the whole operation seems less “indie” and more “amateurish,” but it does appear that the company’s intentions are fairly admirable, or at least adorable. And to be fair, the IMC does give attention to bands from all over the world, though points of origin quickly become irrelevant when you realize that they all want to be Ke$ha.

If this is the first you’re hearing of the Indoor Indie Music Fest, don’t get too excited, because it’s past the deadline for purchasing wristbands. Still, if you time it right, you might get to eavesdrop on a show while you browse at Sox Appeal.
