This time, for real: Brett Favre to sign with Vikings as new QB

The former Green Bay great will take $12 million to join the Purple for a year

Brett Favre, with the Green Bay Packers

Is this actually happening? It's hard to tell anymore. Brett Favre's on-again-off-again romance with the Minnesota Vikings was supposedly over last month when the longtime Green Bay Packers quarterback declined to come out of retirement and join the Vikes at their training camp. The Washington Post now reports that Favre will sign a one-year, $12 million contract with the Vikings today. Wisconsinites are understandably aghast, especially considering that Favre's desire to join the Purple was likely driven at least in part by the fact that playing for his former team's biggest rivals would be a great way to stick it to Green Bay management.

Or maybe he'll just turn tail and run like a frightened puppy right out of the stadium on his first play, never to be seen again. (If it happens in Madden NFL, it can happen in real life, right?):

Here's Favre, master of the last-minute game-changer, completing a pass to Antonio Freeman to steal a victory from the Vikings—certainly not the only time he did that:
