Vid Vs. Vid: Kristoff Krane

kristoff krane

The press release announcing Kristoff Krane's video for "Miracle?" says the St. Paul MC has been working on the clip for nine months, thanks to a crashed hard drive that delayed the production. So there's really no way he could've known that a similarly named rap video would become an internet sensation the week before the release of his own. Not that that will stop us from comparing the two.

Insane Clown Posse's "Miracles" entreats the duo's listeners to view the world as they do: with wide-eyed, science-hating wonder. Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope tackle the great mysteries of the universe—genetics, celestial bodies, pelicans—with a sincerity that's almost as endearing as it is baffling. Krane, on the other hand, takes a smaller-scale approach to life's mysteries, rhyming about a family that's falling apart at the seams due to Alzheimer's and arguments. While the topic of magnets goes woefully unaddressed, "Miracle?" is a poignant reminder to appreciate what you have while you still have it.

Kristoff Krane celebrates the release of Picking Flowers Next To Roadkill on May 15 at the 7th Street Entry.
