Vid Vs. Vid: Mason Jennings

Mason Jennings

Local troubador Mason Jennings takes a step away from his sweet-crooning folk side on his new album, Blood Of Man. The riff-heavy first single, "Ain’t No Friend Of Mine," borrows The White Stripes’ drums-and-guitar formula and the lo-fi vocals of The Black Keys, with Jennings singing about blood on various parts of his body. Meanwhile, the only blood in the video comes via some low-tech animation—created with dry-erase markers and an overhead projector—as Jennings and his band perform in a tidy, empty warehouse. No one's asking for a full-blown zombie flick, but all that talk about blood sure does whet the appetite for some carnage. Watch the "Ain't No Friend Of Mine" vid below, followed by a cheerfully blood-soaked companion clip. (Mason Jennings plays a local Blood Of Man release show at First Avenue on Nov. 22.)
