Vid. Vs. Vid: Owl City
Adam Young and his rising synth-pop persona Owl City landed a recent iTunes Single of the Week with "Fireflies," a Postal Service-styled ditty off his latest album, Ocean Eyes. The video for the song features Young in what appears to be his childhood bedroom, making inanimate toys and electronic doodads come to life with his keyboard. (As a native of Owatonna, Young likely drew inspiration from the magical months when a kid couldn't leave his room for fear of freezing to death.) The clip shows some notable dancing-toy moxie, but does it really compare to Simon Gespel and Xavier Ehretsmann's music-video condensation of John Carpenter's The Thing, reenacted in stunning detail with G.I. Joe action figures? (Owl City plays Sept. 26 at the Cabooze.)
