Just Announced Zola Jesus announces Oct. 11 stop at 7th Street Entry

Since Zola Jesus’ 2009 debut The Spoils, the lo-fi trappings of Nika Roza Danilova’s soft electronica have been peeled back, unearthing a studio-nurtured, undulating sound with last year’s highly praised pair of EPs, Stridulum and Valusia. Wringing just as much looming echo from Danilova’s opera-groomed pipes, the refined Zola Jesus maintains all that fans have grown fond of with an easier-on-the-ear report. If you’ve yet to sample this devilish, digital version of chamber pop, the new single “Vessel” is a good place to start. The track serves as a preview to the forthcoming Conatus (due out Oct. 4 on Sacred Bones), which should be Danilova’s most polished work yet. With 11 tracks played and recorded entirely by the throaty, witchy woman at Zola Jesus’ helm, the record proves Danilova to be a true one-woman show—though you can still expect a full backing band for her recently announced fall tour, which includes an Oct. 11 stop in Minneapolis.
