20 Dollar Love, Mad Trucker Gone Mad, The Skullcranes, and The Von Ehrics at Big V's
Texas cowpunk trio The Von Ehrics recently hooked up with Madison label Crustacean Records, and in this case, you couldn't accuse either of throwing their audience for a loop. Here the band drops its latest album, Loaded, holding fast to its rough-ridin' mix of punk and twang. It's like both band and label are happily hanging out in a time warp where everything's all right as long as the PBRs keep poppin'. It's hard to blame The Von Ehrics for sticking to the sound: They play it well and with a convincing country-fied toughness that makes it fun, from originals like "Loaded All Day" to a cover of Billy Joe Shaver's "Old Chunk Of Coal."
