Average White Band at Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant
Apart from providing modern-day hip-hop acts with scads of sample-ready funk, Scotland’s Average White Band also influenced a generation of self-deprecatingly titled Caucasian acts working in predominantly black genres, from Vanilla Ice to Young Black Teenagers. AWB broke up after its first wave of success in the ’70s, during which it scored enduring classic-rock radio hits like “Pick Up The Pieces,” but it reunited in the late ’80s in an attempt to bring the funk back.
