“Are you saying that the Snakes ain’t awesome? / Are you saying that the Snakes ain’t great? / You better shut up.” Those lines sum up the tongue-in-cheek attitude of Awesome Snakes’ debut (and still only) album, 2006's Venom. Bass-and-drums duo Danny Snakes and Annie Awesome (known better as former members of The Soviettes) write gritty, lo-fi punk songs about snakes and things that are awesome. The logic and genius of the concept is beyond reproach; the fuzzy melodies, screeching vocals, and power-pop choruses are even better.
