The Black Hollies, Fuck Knights, and Strut And Shock at Turf Club
New Jersey's The Black Hollies like to mine the dusty grooves of the '60s, showing a convincing feel for blending soul, psychedelia, and garage-rock. While there's always the danger of just rehashing the old hits and hooks in music like this, The Black Hollies have an ear for any number of bands that impress vinyl-collecting enthusiasts but didn't necessarily stay popular on a bigger scale. But even if those groups fell through the cracks commercially, they did leave behind evidence of a fertile and varied scene, which the Hollies revive on their albums Crimson Reflections and Casting Shadows, and will likely continue on the forthcoming Softly Against The Light.
