Blood, Sweat & Tears at Minnesota State Fair - Leinie Lodge Bandshell
Blood, Sweat & Tears began as a vehicle for organist Al Kooper’s vision of a true jazz-rock fusion, but following Kooper’s exit (and the subsequent entrance of vocalist David Clayton-Thomas), BS&T’s sound smoothed out, rocketing to the top of the charts with tunes such as “Spinning Wheel” and “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy.” Unfortunately, the band’s decision to forego the underground in favor of the mainstream—including a tour of Europe on behalf of the State Department and gigs at Caesar’s Palace—doomed its career. Blood, Sweat & Tears’ songs nevertheless remain standards on oldies stations, and though the lineup is short on original members, rest assured the set will be full of hits.
