Caroline Smith And The Good Night Sleeps and Roma Di Luna at Turf Club
Roma Di Luna’s first two discs, 2006’s Face Of My Friends and last year’s Find Your Way Home, were full of beautiful, quietly resonant folk, but the local husband-and-wife duo of Alexei and Channy Moon Casselle don’t feel tied down to that style. (After all, Alexei is also the MC for local rap duo Kill The Vultures.) On their third disc, last year's Casting The Bones, Roma confidently broadens its scope, adding a full band including bassist James Everest and Spaghetti Western String Co. banjoist Michael Rossetto. It’s an exhilarating step up in every way, creating new wonders without losing touch with what made Roma special in the first place.
