Combichrist, Aesthetic Perfection, and Ivardensphere at Cabooze
“Techno body music” may sound like some phrase Frankie Goes To Hollywood might have dreamed up, but it’s the label Andy LaPlegua applies to his project Combichrist. The Norwegian expatriate group got its big break touring the States with industrial vets KMFDM, which makes sense: Combichrist constructs a buzzing, chanting, mechanistic assault similar to early Nitzer Ebb spiked with contemporary electro. LaPlegua gets primal—in terms of emotions, not technology—on the newly released Making Monsters, a cathartic collection of dead-of-night floor-stompers written during a European tour with Rammstein.
