The Danny Jack Fiasco and Jason Shannon at Bunker's Music Bar & Grill
It’s not always easy to succinctly describe music, but in the annals of poorly chosen descriptors, this one takes the cake: “Jason Shannon fuses folk, blues, country, pop, soul, reggae, and rock music,” goes a press release for Shannon. That’s true, and he does it well, but… “He calls the meeting of these two elements: American soul music.” Uh, Ray Charles was there first, in 1954. Here’s a better description: The Texas-born, Minneapolis-based Shannon ought to be on Brushfire Records, the Jack Johnson-led label that specializes in soulful, warm, thoughtful folk-rock. He’d be a perfect fit.
