Dishonored at The Trylon
Director Josef Von Sternberg and actor Marlene Dietrich enjoyed an extremely productive partnership throughout the early ’30s, starting with her star-making turn in The Blue Angel. In Dishonored—which came near the front end of the duo’s creative streak—the prolific auteur and femme fatale explore male and female social conventions against a backdrop of international espionage and doomed romance. Dietrich, coming off an Oscar nomination for her role in Morocco, went on to become one of the highest paid actresses of the time. Von Sternberg went on to teach at UCLA, influencing students Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek on their way towards forming The Doors.
