Drummer and Royal Bangs at 7th Street Entry

Anyone who hangs around musicians knows at least a few people who can fake it on instruments other than their main ones, but there's still something refreshingly cheeky about a band of "four drummers, not drumming." Patrick Carney of The Black Keys pulled together some fellow Ohio skins-beaters to form Drummer this past winter. Carney's on bass, and a fifth drummer dude named Gregory Boyd holds down the actual drums under pleasantly fuzzy guitars and keyboards on the band's recent debut, Feel Good Together. Despite the banana split on the album's cover, it's feel-good dude-rock with a moderate side of The Cure; and despite its spontaneous, quick-written feel, it holds more promise than a total goof-off project.
