As any fan of Andrew W.K. or The Darkness knows, even the most flamboyant parodies really get by on affection. But Atlanta Christian rock band Family Force 5 mocks goth-pop, rap-metal, and all manner of danceable rock without salvaging much of the fun (or anything else redeeming). FF5 lays on the jokes so incessantly that it’s actually hard to enjoy on any level. After reissuing its 2006 debut, Business Up Front/Party In The Back, in a 2007 “Diamond Edition”—which unfortunately doesn’t mean it’s been melted and crushed deep within the earth—FF5 churned out another batch of novelty sludge called Dance Or Die last year, then remixed that album this year. Up next: An apparently unironic Christmas album.
