Gimme Shelter: A Benefit Concert For Haiti at First Avenue
The first of two Haiti benefit shows at First Avenue this week (Rhymesayers takes over the club on Tuesday), Gimme Shelter features a local lineup co-headlined by synth-pop group Solid Gold and piano-playing wild man Mark Mallman. Add solemn indie-rockers Zoo Animal, rustic duo Peter Wolf Crier, cryphy DJ Jimmy 2 Times, and funk spinner Mike The 2600 King, and you have the most diverse fundraiser in town. In addition to the music, the City Pages-sponsored event will feature a marketplace for local artists set up in the club's usual merch area. Proceeds will go to the Red Cross Haiti Relief & Development Fund and Architecture For Humanity.
