The Goondas, The Rope, Fire In The Northern Firs, and Hollow Boys at Varsity Theater
There’s nothing novel about The Goondas’ formula: live-wire, blues-informed garage rock. It’s the execution that has lifted the rockers to the top of the local heap. Frontman Brenden Green is a regular Iggy onstage, writhing and kicking like a speed-addled drifter. The live show theatrics aren’t hack gimmicky either, as The Goondas’ zeal and chops are equally obvious. Garage-rock revival is a mixed bag, but this band is no Jet write-off; it’s more akin to winners like The Black Keys.
