A.V. Club: Best of the Decade
  • Haley Bonar Cameron Wittig

Cedar Cultural Center

416 Cedar Ave. S.
Twin Cities MN 55454
612-338-2674
$18/$20
  • Sat Nov 28 8 pm,
Haley Bonar, Halloween, Alaska, and Alpha Consumer at Cedar Cultural Center

Someday a fiery revolution will separate untold numbers of young singer-songwriters from their acoustic guitars and drizzly sweet voices, but Haley Bonar should be among those spared. It takes time to cuddle up to Bonar's 2008 album, Big Star, but there's a maturing songwriter at work under its demure hush. Bonar's self-effacing, breathy delivery makes for subtle turns of mood, from the sassy pop of "Something Great" to the slow-burning lament "Green Eyed Boy." A former Twin Citian, Bonar recently relocated to Portland, Ore., so she's sure to get a warm reception at this two-night homecoming stand. She's just released an EP of children's music, Sing With Me, and has been working on her Big Star follow-up, so expect lots of new songs here.
