Modern radio may not be clamoring for Ike Reilly’s wry, quirky combination of American balladeering and full-on rock, but in the confines of a club, it sounds great. Reilly values spontaneity over slickness, and his sagas of love and loss are filled with heartfelt, humanistic storytelling that earns comparisons to Dylan and Springsteen. Named after his 2009 album Hard Luck Stories, Reilly’s four-day "Hard Luck Residency of the Twin Cities" includes this intimate solo set, plus three full-band gigs at other local clubs a little smaller than the rooms he usually plays: the Turf Club on Wednesday, the 7th Street Entry on Thursday, and the Triple Rock Social Club on Friday.
