Fri Aug 7
3 pm
Irish Fair Of Minnesota at Harriet Island Park and Pavilion
With sheepherding demonstrations, boxing, rugby and soccer matches, lectures on Irish history, a pub quiz, and enough Celtic food to feed Cu Chulainn's army, it seems like about the only thing the Irish Fair Of Minnesota isn't doing to celebrate the culture of the Emerald Isle is a Father Ted marathon and a Lucky Charms-eating competition. Maybe next year? The big draw at this annual three-day event held in the Irish stronghold of St. Paul, of course, is the music, with a lineup featuring plenty of local favorites like Romantica and Belfast Cowboys along with a healthy collection of prominent Irish-American rockers. Boston Pogues-gone-hardcore group Dropkick Murphys headlines Friday; Saturday brings L.A. Celtic-rockers The Young Dubliners; and East Coast-based Celtic band Solas winds it up on Sunday, mixing traditional sounds with modern influences like Tom Waits and Bob Dylan. See below for a partial music schedule. A complete schedule of activities and performances can be found at www.irishfair.com.
