John Gorka at Cedar Cultural Center
New Jersey folk singer John Gorka resides somewhere in the melodic neighborhood of James Taylor, though his rich baritone sets him apart from the coffeehouse masses. He's also had some success in country circles with the song "When She Kisses Me," but a typical Gorka tune is thoughtful, tuneful, contemplative folk. Gorka now lives in Minnesota and has spent a good portion of his career on Twin Cities-based folk label Red House. This Cedar show celebrates the release of his first album in three years, So Dark You See, on which Gorka explores his penchant for pessimistic lyrics woven around a hopeful attitude, and includes a faithful cover of Utah Phillips' "I Think Of You."
