Joseph Arthur at Bryant-Lake Bowl
On each of his first three albums for Peter Gabriel’s Real World label, Joseph Arthur came closer to delivering on his considerable potential, melding worldly influences with strong songwriting touched as much by electronic decor as by acoustic guitar. Lately, though, Arthur has veered off in a more rock-oriented direction with his willfully sloppy backing band The Lonely Astronauts (whose membership includes Run Westy Run and Golden Smog alum Kraig Jarret Johnson). 2007’s Let’s Just Be alienated some fans with its Replacements-style rambunctiousness, though Arthur hasn’t backed down from wanton noisiness on his newest, last year’s Temporary People. He plays solo here in support of the re-release of his 2006 disc Nuclear Daydream.
