King For Two Days: A Dave King Celebration, Day 1 at Walker Art Center
Spotlight-stealing drummers are a rare breed, and the Twin Cities have one of the best in Dave King. Local music fans are so taken with his genre-hopping talent, relentless drive, and smartass wit that the Walker has devoted two whole days of programming to him. Actually, two and a half if you count his installment of the Making Music lecture series, which kicks things off Thursday night. Friday’s jazz-packed schedule includes performances by Buffalo Collision, The Bad Plus, Happy Apple, and new hybrid group The Bad Apple, while Saturday raises the curtain on two never-before-seen King projects: Golden Valley Is Now and the roots-tinged Dave King Trucking Company.
