King Khan And BBQ Show and Those Darlins at Triple Rock Social Club
The King Khan And BBQ Show blends elements of countless music genres—from doo-wop to punk—for a raucous, primal effect. Comprising former Spaceshits bandmates Blacksnake (a.k.a. King Khan) and Mark Sultan (a.k.a. BBQ), the Montreal duo churns out anthemic garage rock with an idiosyncratic hint of rockabilly. 2006’s What’s For Dinner? was an admirable slice of howling caveman stomp, and the new Invisible Girl should please the group’s cult following. But nothing compares to the legendary live shows, in which the two men smash away at guitars, drums, and tambourines, creating a racket big enough to put a six-piece garage band to shame. (The current tour was briefly in doubt after psychedelics were found on the band's bus in Kentucky; its tour manager pled guilty to second-degree possession, and the show's back on the road.)
