Ladyhawke, Natalie Portman's Shaved Head, and Semi Precious Weapons at Fine Line Music Cafe

Ladyhawke—a.k.a. singer-songwriter Phillipa “Pip” Brown—makes her influences immediately apparent, particularly on her 2008 self-titled debut. The blonde Kiwi first forayed into music as the lead guitarist in punk outfit Two Lane Blacktop before segueing into her own electro-pop sound. Playing guitar, synth, and bass on the album, Brown turns out infectious, synth-heavy dance-floor-shakers like “Paris Is Burning” and “Magic” that ring full of sound and energy rather than like hollow club hits. (Norway’s breakout babe Ida Maria recently left this Perez Hilton-backed tour due to exhaustion.)
