Leslie And The Ly's, Pennyhawk, and Ramona And The Swimsuits at Triple Rock Social Club
Should anybody claim to have a more disorienting act than Leslie And The Ly’s, they obviously haven’t seen Leslie’s hellacious Midwestern beehive hairdo, RV full of gem sweaters and gold-lamé pants, and nimble talk-sing vocals. Songs like “Can’t Stop The Gems,” from 2006’s Door Man’s Daughter, boast of her apparel’s improbable might; she also covers such topics as hair-braiding, Willow, and zombies. (The 2008 7-inch single “Zombie Killer” even featured a cameo by Elvira, an obvious inspiration and fellow lover of all things camp.) Leslie’s latest, Destination Friendship: The Feelings Album, is a grower, not a shower, slowly working its way into the listener’s collective consciousness with each passing minute—just like the singer would want it, probably.
